In the first quarter of 2022, the top communication apps in Kenya exhibited a range of trends in downloads and active users, according to data from Sensor Tower.
Opera browser with AI saw a significant increase in weekly downloads, starting at 61.9K in late December and peaking at 157.7K by the end of February. Weekly active users also grew from 1M to approximately 1.4M by the end of March.
WhatsApp Messenger maintained a steady presence in Kenya with weekly downloads rising sharply from 48.8K at the start of January to a peak of 200.2K in mid-March. Active users, however, saw a gradual decline from 11.2M to around 10.9M over the quarter. Revenue remained stable at around $2 to $3 weekly.
Snapchat experienced fluctuating downloads, starting at 39.2K and reaching 87.7K by the end of March. Active users grew steadily from 1M in January to nearly 1M by the end of the quarter. Revenue was negligible except for a slight increase to $15 in the last week of March.
Telegram showed a mixed trend in downloads, with a notable peak at 179.6K in mid-March. Active users fluctuated throughout the quarter, ultimately decreasing from 2.1M to 2.06M by the end of March.
GB Version Apk 2022 saw extraordinary growth in downloads, skyrocketing from 1.8K in early March to 285.8K by the end of the month. Active users mirrored this trend, jumping from 2.2K to 323K within the same period.
